Newcastle Airport is on the lookout for a new chief executive, with Paul Hughes to step down in March 2015 after 10 years in the role.

Hughes, who announced his resignation on Thursday, said it had been a career highlight to lead the airport through a period of significant growth.

“In the next 12 months, the full terminal redevelopment will be complete and Newcastle Airport will be firmly positioned for future domestic growth and the commencement of international services,” Hughes said in a statement.

“This is an exciting time to hand over the reins.”

Newcastle Airport said it would start a search for Hughes’ replacement.
