Singapore Airlines says it will use the Airbus A350-900 on all four of its daily flights to Brisbane from the start of May.

The A350-900 is already used on three of its four daily services to Brisbane, with last remaining flight scheduled to switch from the Boeing 777-200 to the next-generation Airbus widebody on May 1, Singapore Airlines said on Thursday.

Singapore Airlines started flying the A350-900 to Brisbane in October 2017. It has gradually swapped out older 777s and A330s in favour of the A350-900, which features the airline’s latest cabin products.

“Over the past few months we have added new A350s to the route and the deployment of this fourth A350 will complete an 11 per cent increase in seat capacity for the route,” Singapore Airlines regional vice president for south west Pacific Philip Goh said in a statement on Thursday.

“The deployment of a fourth A350 on 1 May will also deliver our customers an unparalleled level of product consistency as well as the ability to experience and enjoy one of the most modern and technologically advanced aircraft in the sky.

“An experience I am confident they will embrace and enjoy.”

Singapore Airlines said it would used its medium-haul A350-900 on three of its daily flights to Brisbane. The medium-haul configuration has 303 seats in a two-class layout comprising 40 lie-flat seats in business class with direct aisle access and 263 seats in economy at nine abreast.

The fourth service will be served with Singapore Airlines’ long-haul A350-900s, which have 253 seats in three classes – 42 in business, 24 in premium economy and 187 in economy.

By contrast SIA’s A330-300s and 777-200s have 285 and 266 seats, respectively, spread across business and economy.

It currently flies the A350-900 to three destinations in Australia – Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne.

Singapore Airlines has served Brisbane for nearly 35 years, having begun flights to the Queensland capital on March 30 1984. It is one of three airlines offering nonstop flights between Singapore and Brisbane alongside Emirates and Qantas.

At December 31 2018, Singapore Airlines had 29 A350s-900 in its fleet. In addition to medium- and long-haul configured aircraft, SIA also has eight-ultra long range A350-900ULRs being used for nonstop flights from Singapore to Los Angeles and New York.

The Virgin Australia shareholder and alliance partner has a total of 67 A350s on order from Airbus.
