Melbourne Airport has announced that passenger traffic through the airport during July set a new record as total arrivals increased by 13.4 per cent.
The growth was driven by both higher numbers of both domestic and international passengers. Compared to the same time last year, there was an increase of 12.7 per cent in domestic passengers, while international traffic was up 16.4 per cent. This was driven largely by a major increase in arrivals from Asia, with passengers from China, Japan and Singapore increasing strongly.
The increase in passenger traffic looks set to continue, with Air India launching daily services from Delhi in November, while Qantas is boosting the number of A380 services on the Melbourne-Los Angeles route. Domestically, Jetstar and Tiger have committed to launching new services from Melbourne later this year.
