Virgin Blue and Delta are expanding their codeshare agreement, covering new destinations in the US and Australia and New Zealand.

The expanded arrangement will see V Australia passengers able to connect from Los Angeles on Delta to four new destinations in the United States – San Francisco, Las Vegas, Atlanta and Detroit, while Delta will codeshare on Virgin Blue/Pacific Blue flights between Sydney and various Australasian destinations including Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Auckland and Christchurch.

“Virgin Blue has worked successfully with Delta for three years in an interline and codeshare capacity and today’s announcement is a natural next step forward in our relationship. It has always been our plan to expand the codeshare,” Virgin Blue Group executive of corporate advisory, Merren McArthur, said.

Both VB and Delta are still awaiting a decision from the US Department of Transportation regarding their application for antitrust immunity, after the DOT originally knocked back the application in September last year.

“We have submitted all the information requested by the US Department of Transportation and we hope to hear the outcome in the next few months,” McArthur said.
