The Indian Ministry of Defence has finalised its much anticipated order for 10 Boeing C-17 Globemaster III transports, which makes India the world’s largest export customer for the type, with deliveries due to take place in 2013-14.
India’s finalised order follows US Congress FMS approval of the deal in May, with the Indian Air Force conducting extensive field evaluation trials of the aircraft the following month. India will also participate in Boeing’s performance-based logistics ‘C-17 Globemaster III Sustainment Partnership’ program to maintain the aircraft.
Boeing says 232 C-17s have now been delivered worldwide, including four to the RAAF, with a fifth airlifter expected to arrive in August.
