Boeing Integrated Defence Systems has signed several agreements with Indian defence companies to supply electronics and other equipment for India’s eight P-8I Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft.
India ordered the eight aircraft in a US$2.1 billion deal earlier this year, making it the first nation to commit to the new 737-800 derived aircraft.
“We have signed agreements with Indian companies such as Bharat Electronics, Electronic Corporation of India and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd for supplying equipment to us for the Indian P-8Is to be built in the US,” Boeing’s India chief Vivek Lall said in a statement. “They will be supplying indigenous equipment and spares such as transponders and other electronic equipment for the aircraft.”
Australia is expected to order 8-10 P-8As to replace part of its AP-3C fleet early next decade for delivery from around 2015.
