European budget carrier Norwegian has signed a memorandum of understanding to purchase 100 Airbus A320neo jetliners.
The deal represents the second half of a split buy after Norwegian last week announced an order for 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The A320neo and 737 MAX are competing upgrades on current single aisle airliners designed for improved fuel efficiency. Airbus expects to begin deliveries of the A320neo in 2015, with the 737 MAX scheduled to enter service two years later.
Norwegian’s A320neos will feature a single class cabin layout seating about 180 passengers, Airbus said.
