Airbus Military’s A330-based Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) made its maiden flight in British service in Sunday.

Known as the Voyager in RAF service, the aircraft took off from RAF Brize Norton for a training and familiarisation sortie around the UK.

Britain has ordered 14 of the tankers, of which two have already been converted from the basic A330-200 passenger jet while two others are currently undergoing conversion.

Australia has received four of its order of five MRTTs — known as KC-30As in RAAF service — with the fifth expected to be delivered by the third quarter of this year. Airbus recently made an unsolicited pitch for Australia to purchase a sixth tanker.
