Lufthansa has operated the first revenue flight with its first Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental, with the aircraft flying its inaugural service between Frankfurt and Washington DC’s Dulles International Airport.
Flight LH416 departed Frankfurt on June 1 at 9:05am, touching down at Dulles at 12:45pm local time, with the aircraft later returning to Frankfurt as LH419.
“The Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental is an exceptional aircraft,” said Lufthansa CEO and chairman Christoph Franz. “With its addition to our fleet, Lufthansa has created a product that is not only in line with our company’s commitment to innovation, technology and efficiency, but that also offers qualities and features that are sure to maximize our passengers’ in-flight experience.”
In Lufthansa service the 747-8I is equipped with 362 seats in a three-class configuration, comprised of eight First Class, 92 Business Class and 262 Economy seats. The German carrier is expecting to take delivery of four 747-8Is this year, which will be used on services from Frankfurt to Bangalore, Delhi, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington DC.
