Virgin Australia will enter into a codeshare agreement with Virgin America which will further extend its North American network.

The agreement, subject to regulatory approval, will see Virgin Australia add its code to Virgin America flights from Los Angeles to Portland, Washington DC, Boston, Dallas, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Philadelphia and Seattle.

“We know that connectivity within the United States is extremely important to Australian travellers, with around 60 per cent of guests travelling on to other destinations following their arrival in the country,” said Virgin Australia group executive alliances, network and yield Merren McArthur.

“Today’s announcement means Virgin Australia guests can connect seamlessly to key leisure and business hubs and earn frequent flyer points and status credits in the process.”

Virgin Australia says that it expects approval for the codeshare agreement to be granted in the next few months, and that it will move to implement the arrangements as soon as possible.

Virgin Australia also has a comprehensive codeshare arrangement with alliance partner Delta Air Lines.
