The forecasted shortage of skilled aviation and aerospace workers will take centre stage in a series of forums held around the country over the coming months.
The forums, sponsored by the Aerospace Maritime and Defence Foundation of Australia (AMDFA), are designed to promote careers in those fields by pitching them to secondary school teachers and career advisors. The forums also include hand-on programs for students in years 9-12.
AMDFA CEO Ian Honnery said matching skills with demand will be a major challenge for the aviation industry.
“These forums are an opportunity for teachers, career professionals and students to learn more about the career paths and training opportunities that are out there,” Mr Honnery said.
“We have to think long term because many of these industries have long lead times.”
Forums are due to held to coincide with the RAAA Convention on the Sunshine Coast in October, the Land Warfare Conference in Melbourne also in October, the 2013 Avalon Airshow and the 2013 Pacific Maritime Exposition in Sydney.
