Qantas is reportedly trying to convince Singapore Airlines to break its alliance with Virgin Australia and join the Qantas-Emirates tie up formed last week.
The Australian Financial Review reported today that Qantas executives have made their case to senior officials at Temasek, the Singapore government investment vehicle that owns 56 per cent of Singapore Airlines. The newspaper said Qantas had approached Temasek because of poor relations between Qantas and SIA senior management.
Despite its landmark tie-up with Emirates, Qantas is still seen as likely to pursue an alliance with a major Asian carrier as it seeks to turn around its international operations.
But the Financial Review said the odds of a Qantas-SIA tie up remain small.
