Air navigation services provider Airways New Zealand has become the first ANSP in the world to receive ICAO endorsement as a designer of instrument procedures for Performance-Based Navigation (PBN).
“We’ve done many different types of PBN flight procedures for varying environmental and traffic conditions, weather conditions and mixed fleet capabilities. We’re proud to have this experience recognised in this manner,” Obrad Puškarica, aeronautical design and development team leader at Airways, said.
PBN procedures are becoming increasingly important to optimising capacity and efficiency in airport airspace environments. The introduction of RNP PBN at Queenstown has delivered significant improvements to capacity and safety. Flight movement capcity at the airport has doubled, bringing material benefits to the region’s tourism industry and airlines.
