International and domestic passengers at Melbourne Airport increased five per cent during the third quarter of 2012/13 to reach 7,455,992 passengers, adding to a successful record of growth over recent years.
International passengers grew by three per cent during the quarter compared to the same period last year, while domestic passengers increased by five per cent during the period, reaching 5,642,848 passengers.
“Asia was the strongest performing market for the quarter and continues to make a significant contribution to Victoria’s economy through international visitor expenditure. Passport holders from Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Vietnam and the Philippines all grew by more than 10 per cent,” Melbourne Airport CEO, Chris Woodruff said.
During March, international passengers increased by four per cent while domestic passengers increased by six per cent to reach 1,980,375 taking total passengers to 2,573,219 for the month.
