The Cairns Aviation Skills Centre (CASC) has been awarded the inaugural 2013 Innovation and Excellence in Workforce Development Award – Aviation for its contribution to the aviation industry in training and workforce development.

The award acknowledged the achievements as a result of the combined efforts of the CASC, industry, Aviation Australia and the continued support of the Queensland Government.

CASC business manager Chris Pigott said: “The CASC has worked closely alongside industry to ensure its aviation training is not only relevant but delivered to the high standard required and recognised by industry leaders, thereby ensuring sustainable and appropriate employment opportunities exist within Australia.

“As part of the Workforce Development Initiative, the CASC implemented strategies to ensure the initiative’s successful outcome, one of which was the establishment of its aviation dedicated Training Centre,” Pigott added. “Situated within the Cairns Aviation Precinct, the Training Centre consists of four large classrooms and an operational hangar which houses a range of aircraft and state-of-the-art training equipment providing a practical work environment for students.”
