Jetstar will become the anchor tenant of Melbourne Airport’s new terminal 4 (T4) when it’s completed in 2015.
The $400 million development, which will be located at the southern end of the airport and fully integrated with the existing terminals, will see Jetstar vacate the facilities it currently shares with Qantas. It is likely Jetstar will be a joint tenant with Tigerair, establishing the new terminal as a quasi low-cost facility.
The T4 development is a part of Melbourne Airport’s Southern Precinct Program incorporating landside and airside infrastructure which has the potential to service 17 new aircraft parking positions and more than 10 million passengers per annum once completed.
In the last financial year Jetstar carried more than 5.5 million passengers through Melbourne Airport.
The deal for the new terminal further consolidates Jetstar’s base of operations in Melbourne, coming soon after the airline’s announcement it is establishing its 787 engineering and training base there.
