Canada’s second major airline WestJet has announced an order for 65 737 MAX aircraft, fulfilling the carrier’s letter of intent to purchase the aircraft announced on August 29. The order, valued at US$6.3 billion at list prices, comprises 40 737 MAX 8s and 25 737 MAX 7s. The aircraft will underpin the Calgary-based airline’s fleet renewal program.
Westjet will become one of the first North American carriers to operate the MAX series of 737s when it introduces the aircraft in 2017. The order brings the total number of 737 MAXs ordered to 1,567.
