AirAsia X has announced its Thai AirAsia X associate has been granted its Air Operator’s Certificate by the Thai Department of Civil Aviation.

The granting of the AOC will allow Thai AirAsia X to commence the application processes for operating permits and slots at Bangkok’s Don Mueng Airport with a view to commencing international operations with two leased 377-seat Airbus A330-300s. The group already operates regional services from Don Mueng using A320 equipment under its Thai AirAsia brand.

“Thai AirAsia X is expected to offer connecting fly-through services with Thai AirAsia’s short haul domestic and regional network, offering greater connectivity options from hubs in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok,” AirAsia X CEO, Azran Osman-Rani said in a statement. “The establishment of our Thai hub will see the beginning of AirAsia X’s strategic multi-hub plan turn into reality.”

The airline has appointed Mr Nadda Buranasiri as its new CEO.
