CASA cancels Broome Helicopters’ certificate

written by WOFA | March 25, 2014

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has cancelled the operator’s certificate for Broome Helicopter Services and of its chief pilot after what it said it identified “non-compliance with a range of relevant safety requirements during an audit”.

The Broome, WA-based company operates charter and aerial survey work. CASA says the non-compliances included poor record keeping, failure to comply with pilot flight and duty limitations, not adequately training pilots, poor airworthiness control, aircraft operated with overdue maintenance and incorrect load control. It said these were identified in earlier audits but had not been addressed in subsequent visits.

It also said the chief pilot had directed junior pilots to falsify operational records, including those related to an accident.
