Regional Express’s (Rex) pilot cadet program has been recognised with a workplace development award.

The airline took out the innovation and excellence in workforce development gong at the recent Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council (TLISC) annual awards.

It was a double celebration for Rex, with one of its pilots Carl Riseley named TLISC trainee of the year.

Rex’s pilot cadet program was launched in October 2007 amid a shortage of pilots. It is operated by its Australian Airline Pilot Academy subsidiary at Wagga Wagga.

“It is pleasing to see that the substantial investment Rex is making in training airline pilots in Australia through AAPA is being appreciated,” Rex director Chris Hine said in a statement.
