Regional Express (Rex) has been ranked the highest of all regional airlines by Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine for the sixth year in a row in its annual ranking of the Top Performing Airlines in the world.

The rankings are based on four areas – financial health, earnings performance, capital efficiency and business model performance, and Rex ranked fifth amongst all airlines worldwide.

“While the Rex Group’s profits have significantly declined in the past two years, Rex’s strong fundamentals have enabled it to maintain its place amongst the best performing airlines in the world,” Rex Executive Chairman Lim Kim Hai said in a statement. “And it is pleasing to see that our excellence is not only in the financial arena, as Rex was also the most reliable airline in 2013 in Australia and was voted by readers of Australian Traveller magazine as the best regional airline in 2013. On behalf of the Rex Board I applaud all staff and particularly my management team for this outstanding achievement.”

Other Australian carriers to feature were Qantas which ranked 50th, Tiger which ranked 59th, and Virgin Australia ranked 65th.
