The organisers of the Australian International Airshow at Avalon are calling for around 800 volunteers to help run the 2015 event. Volunteers will be tasked with a number of responsibilities including aircraft and ground operations, car park supervision and media liaison.

Airshow CEO Ian Honnery says volunteers are vital to the success of the airshow. “They are the public face of the event, their good nature and common sense are among our greatest assets,” he said. “Without them there would be no show.”

The theme of next year’s airshow will be Heroes of the Sky, with a particular focus on and tribute to World War One era aviation. “This will be the major theme of the event and as such it will be the first significant observance of the Gallipoli campaign in its centenary year,” Honnery said. “It will feature an emotional tribute to our gallant aviators, the heroes of the sky, over the past 100 years, from 1915 to the present day.”

All volunteer applicants should be at least 18 years old, but aviation experience is not essential. The 2015 Volunteer Registration Form is now active and can be accessed via the airshow website.

The Australian International Airshow 2015 will be staged at Avalon Airport, near Geelong, Victoria, between February 24 and March 1 2015.
