The visual display system of Army Aviation’s Tiger ARH full flight mission simulator (FFMS) installed at the Oakey Army Aviation Centre, Queensland has been upgraded to the highest levels of ‘out of the window’ realism of any Tiger FFMS in the world.

Thales Australia with prime contractor Airbus Group Australia Pacific upgraded the dual-dome simulator with the latest generation BARCO F35 projectors for brighter and clearer colours with an improved overall focus.

The simulator’s image generators were also replaced with PC-based generators designed by Thales Australia using XENON computer hardware.

Both the new projectors and image generators were integrated with the existing host computers and visual display platform enhancing the 240-degree horizontal by 85-degree vertical field of view for Tiger ARH flight crews.

While in the final stage of the upgrade, the FFMS passed its Recurrent Fidelity Check, required to maintain CASA FSD-1 Level 5 (Level D equivalent) accreditation, the highest achievable level.
