Both Airbus and Boeing announced orders for their single aisle airliners on December 23.
Chile’s LAN Airlines placed a firm order for the purchase of 30 Airbus Family A320 aircraft, taking its total Airbus orders to over 100.
“This investment ensures the company’s future growth and reaffirms LAN’s commitment to the development of commercial aviation in Latin America, as well as to the economic growth and social development of countries in the region,” Ignacio Cueto, LAN Airlines chief operating officer, said. “These aircraft are operated by the world’s best airlines and feature the latest technology, creating a substantial change in terms of service, quality and comfort, and allowing LAN to offer the best travel experience to our passengers.”
Meanwhile, Reunion based Air Austral has ordered two Boeing 737-800s, valued at US$152 million at list prices. They will replace one 737-300 and one 737-500.
The order follows the airline’s earlier purchase of two A380s, announced at November’s Dubai Airshow.
