Newcastle Airport has appointed a former Perth Airport executive as its new chief executive.

Peter Cock, who spent almost a decade working at Perth Airport including as executive general manager for operations and customer experience, chief operating officer and general manager for corporate risk, will start his new job on June 17 2015, Newcastle Airport chairman Peter Gesling said in a statement on Friday.

Gesling said Cock had a strong aviation and business background.

“Peter has shown he has the necessary skills and qualities to guide Newcastle Airport in its next phase of growth,” Gesling said in a statement.

“The board and I look forward to working closely with Peter as he leads the company into this new phase and builds upon what is already a very successful airport business and transport hub for the Hunter region.”

Cock, who has been working as an independent consultant since leaving Perth Airport in March 2014, will replace Paul Hughes, who said in December he would be leaving the company.
