A RAAF C-130H Hercules departed RAAF Richmond for Fiji this morning transporting pallets of tarpaulins, water purifying equipment and other supplies to support relief efforts following Cyclone Tomas, which has caused widespread damage across the Fijian islands.

“Following a request from the Fiji government, Australian Defence Force’s Air Force is providing strategic airlift support to AusAID to move 18 tonnes of tarps, water purification tablets, tents and water containers to Fiji today,” said Defence Minister Senator John Faulkner in a statement.

The C-130H is due to land at Nausori this evening.
