Boeing began assembly of the first passenger 747-8I Intercontinental last week with the loading of wing panels and spars in assembly tools at its Everett plant.
Delivery of the first 747-8I is due in late 2011 to Lufthansa, preceded by delivery of the first 747-8F Freighter to launch customer Cargolux, which is due to take place during the fourth quarter of this year.
“We are very pleased to see that the production on the 747-8 Intercontinental has begun,” said Nico Buchholz, Lufthansa’s senior vice president, corporate fleet. “We are looking forward to welcoming the aircraft in our fleet as it is a component of Lufthansa’s strategy to modernise its fleet and increase environmental stewardship. The 747-8 shows our clear commitment to customer orientation.”
