Singapore Airlines has cut more flight in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, with 7 per cent of its schedule from February to the end of May now axed.
The cuts, including services operated by subsidiary SilkAir, incorporate reportedly more than 3,000 flights to destinations including Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong, Seattle, San Francisco, Paris and London.
The airline has also announced a recruitment freeze for all ground positions.
The announcement of additional cuts comes after the airline announced 670 cancellations last week. An updated list of reductions can be viewed here.
In a statement, Singapore Airlines said, “The SIA Group has taken swift action to mitigate the impact of COVID-19. We will continue to monitor the situation, and be nimble and flexible in adjusting our capacity to match the changing demand patterns in the market.
“Singapore Airlines and SilkAir apologise for the inconvenience caused.
“Affected customers will be notified and re-accommodated onto other flights.
“In response to COVID-19, a general recruitment freeze has been implemented for all ground positions, and non-essential duty travel has been suspended.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and will be decisive in implementing any additional measures that may be needed. We will not do anything, however, that compromises SIA Group’s long-term competitiveness.”
