Qatar Airways Cargo has launched a new campaign, which will see the delivery of 1 million kilograms of cargo on behalf of charities around the world, delivered free of charge.
From July to December 2020, charities will be able to utilise the services of Qatar’s cargo branch for the transport of humanitarian aid, medical supplies and essential products to where it is needed most.
Qatar Airways will donate the freight space to “selected customers” around the globe, to pass on to charities of their choice.
Qatar Airways chief officer cargo, Guillaume Halleux, said the new campaign was “triggered” by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, which has hit certain countries and communities much harder than others.
“The pandemic is a tragedy for millions of people, and we looked for ways how we, as an airline, could help those in the greatest difficulty,” Halleux said.
“This solution – shipping 1 million kilos of cargo free of charge – is a firm commitment for QR Cargo. More than just words, we wanted to act and to adopt a comprehensive approach based on actions for the future.”
He stated that the ‘1 Million Kilos’ campaign is the first chapter in the airline’s larger ongoing “sustainability project” titled ‘We Qare’.
The project has been built off the back of the four fundamental pillars of sustainability – economy, environment, society and culture, and hopes to create a “positive impact on the industry and the world”.
