French defense company Arquus has won a major contract to develop and produce a new generation of tanker trucks for the French armed forces, with an initial order for 70 vehicles worth around €70 million.
The Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) awarded the contract on April 28th, 2024, confirming Arquus as a key player in the design and production of armored logistics vehicles for the French Army.
Deliveries of the new tankers, known as CCNG (Camion-Citerne Nouvelle Génération), are scheduled to begin in 2026. The program aims to provide a total of 376 trucks by 2030 to replace the current aging fleet, in line with France’s 2024-2030 military spending plan.
The CCNGs will serve the Army, Air and Space Force, and the Operational Energy Service, and are designed to be robust and versatile to meet the demands of military operations. They will ensure fuel supply in challenging and sometimes hostile environments.
Three versions of the truck have been ordered:
– A 20m³ “mass transport” tanker with an armored cabin
– A 12m³ “protection device” tanker, also with an armored cabin
– An unarmored 12m³ tanker for lower-risk missions
All three models will be based on an 8×8 off-road chassis supplied by Renault Trucks.
Arquus will design and manufacture the armored cabins at its facility in Garchizy, central France, while the final assembly will take place at a new production line in Limoges.
The company has partnered with tanker specialist Magyar and fire protection expert Desautel to develop the vehicles. It will also provide support services including spare parts, documentation, training and fleet management.
Arquus, a subsidiary of the Volvo Group, is already a major supplier to the French Army, with almost 25,000 vehicles in service. It is involved in the production of the new Griffon and Jaguar armored vehicles for the Scorpion program.
The CCNG contract reinforces Arquus’ position as a leader in military logistics and mobility solutions. The company exports to more than 60 countries and is investing heavily in areas such as survivability, energy, robotics and fire support.
