written by Newsdesk | June 28, 2024

Fiji Airways has announced it will join American Airlines’ AAdvantage travel rewards program, offering members new benefits and redemption options when flying with either carrier.

The partnership, set to begin in the coming year, will allow AAdvantage members to enjoy priority services when traveling on Fiji Airways flights.

Elite members will receive benefits including priority check-in, priority boarding, extra baggage allowance, preferred seating and enhanced award redemption options.

Andre Viljoen, Managing Director and CEO of Fiji Airways, said: “This loyalty partnership marks a significant milestone, bringing together two renowned carriers to offer new benefits to millions of travelers.”

He added: “We are excited about the positive impact this collaboration will have on both our airlines and our guests who will benefit from the exclusive perks.”

AAdvantage, launched in 1981, is the world’s longest-running travel loyalty program. It has since evolved into a comprehensive travel rewards scheme offering members access to a wide range of experiences and benefits.

Anmol Bhargava, American’s Vice President of Partnerships, said: “We are taking our partnership with Fiji Airways one step further by offering our mutual customers the opportunity to unlock more destinations and travel experiences through the AAdvantage program.”

The collaboration follows Fiji Airways’ recent announcement that it will become the 15th full member of the oneworld alliance in 2025.

Both initiatives aim to boost Fiji’s tourism industry by strengthening connections with American travelers.

Viljoen noted: “With this partnership, Fiji Airways is set to gain access to a vast network of American travelers, potentially increasing visitor arrivals to the enchanting destination of Fiji.”

Fiji Airways customers will be able to join the AAdvantage program through either the Fiji Airways or American Airlines websites.

The partnership is expected to enhance travel options for members of both airlines while contributing to Fiji’s growing tourism sector.
