Vietjet signs major deals with Rolls-Royce and Lufthansa Technik

Vietnamese airline Vietjet has announced two significant agreements at the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow, strengthening its fleet capabilities and maintenance operations.

The carrier signed a deal with Rolls-Royce for 40 Trent 7000 engines and TotalCare engine services to power its recently ordered 20 Airbus A330neo widebody aircraft.

Rob Watson, President of Rolls-Royce Civil Aerospace, said the company was “delighted” to execute the service agreement with Vietjet.

“We look forward to supporting their Trent 7000 fleet for many years under our TotalCare service,” Mr Watson said.

Vietjet CEO Dinh Viet Phuong said the new engines would help the airline reach “new technological heights” and increase operational efficiency.

“The addition of the newest generation, high-efficiency Rolls-Royce engines aligns with Vietjet’s sustainable development strategy, with its ESG goals to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050,” Mr Phuong said.

In a separate agreement, Vietjet signed an exclusive Total Component Support (TCS) contract with Lufthansa Technik for its Airbus fleet.

The multi-year agreement covers 184 A320 family aircraft and 9 A330 aircraft, starting from October 2024.

Johanna Koch, Vice President Corporate Sales Southeast Asia and Indian Subcontinent at Lufthansa Technik, described it as the largest TCS contract secured by the company in Southeast Asia.

Vietjet Chief Operating Officer Michael Hickey said the agreement reflected the airline’s “strategic vision to enhance our fleet’s reliability and performance”.

The deals come as Vietjet expands its international network, including seven routes connecting major Australian cities to Vietnam.

These agreements are expected to support Vietjet’s growth plans and commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards across its operations.
