written by Newsdesk | September 30, 2024

Embraer, the global aerospace company, has delivered its seventh C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft to the Brazilian Air Force.

The aircraft will be operated by the First Squadron of the First Transport Group at Galeão Air Force Base in Rio de Janeiro.

This delivery marks five years of service for the C-390 in the Brazilian Air Force, during which time it has performed a wide range of military and humanitarian missions globally.

Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, said the C-390 Millennium had demonstrated “operational qualities, reliability, and versatility” over the past five years.

“With the delivery of this brand-new aircraft, we are proud to contribute even more to the operational success of the FAB’s missions,” Mr da Costa Junior said.

Since becoming operational in 2019, the C-390 has been involved in various missions, including:

  • Transporting supplies during the COVID-19 crisis
  • Participating in international missions and exercises
  • Performing aerial refueling
  • Repatriating Brazilian citizens
  • Fighting wildfires

The C-390 Millennium boasts a maximum payload of 26 tons and a top speed of 470 knots.

Its powerful engines, large cargo hold with a rear ramp, and robust landing gear allow it to operate from unpaved runways and perform demanding missions.

The aircraft can carry out a range of military and civilian tasks, including transport of cargo, personnel and vehicles, peacekeeping operations, special operations, humanitarian support, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting, air-to-air refueling, and disaster management.

Several nations have selected the C-390, including Brazil, Portugal, The Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic and South Korea.

The current fleet of C-390 aircraft has accumulated over 14,000 flight hours, with a mission capability rate of 93% and mission completion rates above 99%.

This delivery reinforces Embraer’s position as a leading manufacturer of military transport aircraft and highlights the C-390 Millennium’s growing importance in global military operations.
