Hanwha Aerospace has appointed Michael Coulter as its Global Defense CEO to lead the company’s international defense initiatives.
The newly created position will oversee the defense operations of Hanwha Aerospace and its subsidiaries, including Hanwha Ocean and Hanwha Systems.
Coulter previously served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Business Development at Leonardo DRS and President of Leonardo DRS International.

His appointment aims to strengthen Hanwha’s strategic position in delivering integrated land, sea and air defense solutions globally, with a particular focus on the United States market.
Coulter brings extensive government experience, having served as Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs.
He also held senior roles at the U.S. Department of State and served as a National Security Advisor in the U.S. Senate.
A U.S. Navy reserve officer with combat experience, Coulter holds master’s degrees from Georgetown University and the U.S. Naval War College.
The appointment reflects Hanwha’s ambition to become a world-class defense company.
