Embraer jets receive certification for operation in Mongolia

written by Newsdesk | April 16, 2025

Embraer’s E190-E2 and E195-E2 aircraft have been granted type acceptance certificates by the Mongolia Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA), enabling their operation in the country’s growing aviation market.

The certification, announced on 16 April, follows assessment by Mongolian authorities and aligns with existing certifications from global regulators including the US Federal Aviation Administration, European Union Aviation Safety Agency, Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency, Singapore’s Civil Aviation Authority, and the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

The E2 family represents the Brazilian manufacturer’s latest generation of regional jets, which the company describes as “the world’s most fuel-efficient and quiet single-aisle aircraft.”

“We thank the Mongolia Civil Aviation Authority for their diligent assessment and confidence in Embraer’s aircraft,” said Martyn Holmes, Chief Commercial Officer of Embraer Commercial Aviation.

“Certification paves the way for more business opportunities as we continue to expand our footprint in Mongolia,” Mr Holmes said.

Embraer has maintained a presence in Mongolia since 2018, when Aero Mongolia began operating the ERJ 145 regional jet.

The following year, Hunnu Air added two E190 aircraft to its fleet for domestic and international routes. In 2023, the airline launched direct services between Ulaanbaatar and Beijing Daxing International Airport using Embraer jets.

Hunnu Air is currently the largest private airline in Mongolia and has been operating Embraer aircraft since 2019.

The certification could potentially open new opportunities for Mongolian carriers looking to modernise their fleets and expand route networks using the more efficient E2 models.

Mongolia’s aviation market has been gradually expanding with growing domestic and international travel demand, particularly connecting the capital Ulaanbaatar with destinations in neighbouring countries.
