A Choice magazine survey has named Virgin Blue as Australia’s best domestic airline for the second year in a row, with Tiger Airways taking out last place.

The survey involved 11,000 Choice members who rated the major domestic carriers on 10 criteria including cost, inflight service and food quality, and saw Virgin Blue receive the highest overall score of 73 per cent. The airline was consistently rated first or second across the criteria, with a number of members commenting on their standards of service and its change of policy which no longer requires disabled passengers to travel with a carer.

Regional Express was ranked second in the survey at 71 per cent, with members noting its “old-fashioned” service. Qantas came in third at 68 per cent, with some comments from members noting that the quality of service varied across flights. Jetstar came in at 60 per cent, slightly above Tiger’s rating of 54 per cent, with delays noted by members from both carriers.
