Embraer and AgustaWestland have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint-venture company to produce AgustaWestland helicopters in Brazil.

The aircraft would be marketed to commercial and military operators. The two companies said preliminary studies show strong potential for twin-engine, medium-lift helicopters in the offshore oil and gas market.

AgustaWestland’s CEO Bruno Spagnolini said: “Brazil is an important market for AgustaWestland and we believe having an industrial presence in this country will help us to further grow our business in one of the world’s fastest growing markets.”

The partners aim to establish the joint venture by mid-year.
